Surfactants

Surfactants, or surface-active agents,  when added to a liquid, reduces its surface tension, thereby increasing the agents spreading and wetting properties. They are primary components of cleaning agents.  Surfactant molecules stir up activity on the surface you are cleaning trap dirt and remove it from the surface.
