VEEGUM® – Magnesium Aluminium Silicate

VEEGUM® Magnesium Aluminum Silicate products are water-washed smectite clays that serve as suspension stabilizers, emulsion optimizers and rheology modifiers. Topical cosmetic and pharmaceutical oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions are commonly used to deliver functional ingredients
to the skin. Water-swellable clays  like Veegum are often used to adjust the rheology and application properties of these emulsions.

Pharmaceutical / Personal Care Grades

VEEGUM R -Magnesium Aluminum Silicate NF
Economical grade for general use; used in all industries

VEEGUM HV – Magnesium Aluminum Silicate NF

VANATURAL XGB – INCI: Bentonite (and) Xanthan Gum
ECOCERT/COSMOS listed blend of natural white water-washed bentonite (not
VANATURAL) and xanthan gum

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is VEEGUM® Magnesium Aluminium Silicate?
VEEGUM® is a range of water-washed smectite clays used as suspension stabilisers, emulsion optimisers, and rheology modifiers in pharmaceuticals, personal care, and cosmetic formulations.

2. What are the main applications of VEEGUM®?
VEEGUM® is commonly used in topical cosmetic and pharmaceutical oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions to deliver active ingredients effectively. It helps improve texture, stabilise suspensions, and enhance application properties.

3. What grades of VEEGUM® are available for pharmaceutical and personal care use?

VEEGUM R: Economical grade for general use across industries.

VEEGUM HV: Provides higher viscosity at lower solids.

VEEGUM K: Ideal for acidic products with good electrolyte compatibility.

VEEGUM HS: Least buffering in acidic formulations.

4. Are there VEEGUM® grades designed specifically for personal care products?
Yes. Some personal care-focused grades include:

VEEGUM Ultra: Fast hydrating with acid pH properties.

VEEGUM Pure: ECOCERT/COSMOS/OMRI listed version of VEEGUM R, suitable for organic formulations.

VEEGUM D: Specially developed as a dentifrice binder, compatible with NaF (with phosphate first), and rapidly hydrates in water.

5. Does VEEGUM® offer eco-friendly or certified products?
Yes. VEEGUM Pure and VANATURAL are ECOCERT/COSMOS/OMRI listed, making them suitable for natural and organic product development.

6. What is the difference between VEEGUM® and VANATURAL products?

VEEGUM® refers to magnesium aluminium silicate grades designed for suspension and emulsion stability.

VANATURAL is a natural white water-washed bentonite clay, also available in a blend form (VANATURAL XGB) combined with xanthan gum for enhanced rheology modification.

7. In which industries are VEEGUM® products used?
They are widely applied in pharmaceuticals, personal care, cosmetics, and oral care formulations, where stability, viscosity, and smooth application are essential.

8. Can VEEGUM® be used in acidic formulations?
Yes. Grades such as VEEGUM K and VEEGUM HS are specially designed to perform well in acidic environments with minimal buffering.

9. Is VEEGUM® safe for use in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals?
Yes. VEEGUM® products are recognised for their safety and functionality in regulated industries, making them suitable for topical and oral care applications.

10. How do VEEGUM® clays enhance product performance?
They improve suspension stability, prevent ingredient separation, optimise emulsion rheology, and ensure smooth texture and application in finished formulations.
